AGRICULTURE: AN INTRODUCTION
As
the name suggests, this course deals with
agriculture science. Agriculture science or
technology deals with applying scientific knowledge,
technology and principles to boost agricultural
productivity.
It is a multidisciplinary
field. It consists of elements of chemistry,
biology, technology, management, marketing and
animal husbandry. Agriculture is a very broad field.
It consists of many sub-disciplines and
sub-branches. Notable sub-branches include –
These are the specialised programme designed in the area of agriculture having allied activities. These programmes are a mix of farm and non-farm activities, agriculture extension, applications of technology and micro finance to create skilled manpower to cater the needs of various industries. In addition to this it has the capacity to create entrepreneurs interested in agriculture and allied areas. These programmes cover skilling of collectivization, organic farming, hydroponics, medicinal plants, bee keeping, livelihood, green house, natural farming, dairy analytics, application of GIS, spreadsheet modelling, research methodology, microfinance, micro insurance and agricultural extension modules. They bridge the gap requirement of skilled manpower in various sectors of agriculture.
